Junior Invitational Series gets started

Junior Invitational Series gets started

DSC_2422_2_1024We once again were blessed with moderate trade winds and no more than a few rain drops during the entire race. Eight boats vied to cross the starting line first, with Kato breaking free from the pack. A ninth boat, Iwa, was late to the start, but chose to do two of the three laps of the course. Although Kato started with a decent lead, by the end of the second lap, Fast Company and Bonjolea II had overtaken Kato, with OZone in hot pursuit. DSC_2710_2_1024Weatherly (with an adult skipper and all junior crew!), Lelele, Speedy, Papa a’u, and Iwa battled for the remaining places.

But boat for boat doesn’t tell the full story: handicaps are applied to even up the competition. When the smoke cleared, Kato was in third in the PHRF Class, with OZone in second, and Fast Company finishing first by over a minute in corrected time. DSC_2557_2_1024In club class, Lelele finished third, Bonjolea II placed second, and Weatherly finished first.
