Fast Company Comes From Behind and Wins Again!

The second race of the NYC Spring Series was held on 2/21/19 in very light winds. Weatherly, the Olson 30 with the junior sailors for crew, had the best start. Kato andOzone, two of the other Olson 30 sailboats, slowly caught up. In a crossing situation Ozone came very close to Kato (who had the right of way.) Fortunately for Ozone, Kato didn’t fly a red flag in protest or Ozone would have had to do two penalty turns.

Heading out to the Ninini Lighthouse buoy Fast Company was catching up quickly. Ozone rounded the buoy first. But on the downwind leg with spinnakers barely flying in the light air, Fast Company passed Ozone at the breakwater.

Because of the light air and darkness coming on, the race committee wisely decided to cancel the second lap of the race. Fast Company finished in first place overall with a time of 46:15. Ozone was second at 46:49 and Kato was third at 50:39. In the Club Class Papa Au was first at 47:45 with Speedy second at 48:27 and Weatherly third at 50:08.

Company.

The public is invited to watch the 3rd Spring Series Race on Thursday 2/28/19 at the Nawiliwili Harbor Jetty parking area starting at 5 pm.
