4 WAHINE RACE SWEEP FOR TESS MOELLER ON FAST COMPANY!

4 WAHINE RACE SWEEP FOR TESS MOELLER ON FAST COMPANY!

The fourth and final race of the Wahine Series was sailed in strong gusty winds on 8/1/19. Tess Moeller on Fast Company made it a four race sweep by winning first place again with a PHRF Class time of 1:07:42 over the 6.23 mile race. Although Kato with skipper Chandra Bertsch led Fast Company for most of the race, at the downwind G-7 buoy they had a disastrous problem. They almost T-boned the buoy and shot passed it on the wrong side. They had to take down their spinnaker and turn back to go around the buoy properly. This allowed Fast Company to pass them and to collect the win and thus the sweep. Kato was 30 seconds behind on corrected time at 1:08:12 to garner second place. Although Bonjolea II with Bonnie Tiffany on the helm was again the first boat across the finish line, they had to settle for third place at 1:08:12, only one second behind Kato. Their handicap time is due to their longer length and speed.

In the Club Class it was Iwa skippered by Karen Cole in first place, Papa Au steered by Victoria Aiu in second, and Weatherly with Astrid on the helm in third place. Ozone, skippered by Alison Fornari, finished out of the money when a large gust of wind on the spinnaker downwind run caused them to round up which slowed them down.

A delicious meal of fish tacos and pork carnitas was provided by the crew of Papa Au. This was catered by Amaize Inc run by our fellow sailor Marisela Millett. A dessert of birthday cake was also provided to celebrate Bill Peterson who races on Papa Au.

The Gene Wells Series of 10 races starts on Thursday 8/10/19. Gene was a well known boat builder on Kauai and he was an honored member of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club. The public is invited to watch these races from the Nawiliwili mole parking area with a start time of 5 pm.
