OZone Takes race #2 in the NYC Spring Shakedown Series
Unlike the previous week’s race when OZone started on a port tack, and had to duck the sterns of starboard tack boats as they were the burden vessel, this week they successfully sailed across the bows of the starboard tack boats and won the start. When two boats meet on opposite tacks, the starboard tack boat will have the right-of-way forcing the port tack boat to sail around the stern of the other boat or tack. This race day had a more northerly wind than last week and this gave OZone the advantage they needed to pull off this strategy. It paid off for them as they sailed well and crossed the finish line first with an elapsed time of 0:55:16 (corrected to 0:55:21). Papa a’u, an Express 37, finished closely behind with an elapsed time of 0:58:09, corrected to 0:55:40. Fast Company, another Olson 30, finished third with an elapsed time of 0:56:00, corrected to 0:56:05.
For Club Open results, Trinity, a F-28 trimaran, took first place, followed by Coyote, a C&C 38. Bonjolea II , took third.
