Bonjolea II Wins Offshore Race #2

Race #2 of the Offshore Race Series was on Saturday, April 9th. The weather looked to be another great day of sailing with sunny skies and a 10 knot breeze from the NE. The participants where Papa a’u and Bonjolea II, and at the Skippers Meeting at 9AM it was decided to race up to Ahukini Landing, back down to “G” 11 buoy, and then to the finish line. The 10AM start time was advanced to 9:55 because a fleet of 6-man ocean canoes were cuing up to use the same start line after 10AM.

The racers cleared Ninini Point and made it up to Ahukini Landing in one tack with Bonjolea II in the lead. After clearing the point and tacking around, the crew of the Bonjolea II set their spinnaker for the downward leg, and passing close by to the close-hauled Papa a’u. The boats surfed a few choice waves before they sailed into Nawiliwili harbor, and jibed down to the leeward mark. At the finish line it was Bonjolea II in first place followed by Papa a’u by 40 seconds, PHRF corrected.
