Ozone Wins PHRF in Race 2 of the 2016 Rum Series – Speedy wins Club Class

Eight boats from the Nawiliwili Yacht Club enjoyed an evening of racing on Thursday the 14th. The trade winds were blowing at a steady 5 to 7 knots out of the northeast, perfect conditions for long spinnaker runs from the windward buoy off of the lighthouse to the leeward mark deep inside the Nawiliwili Harbor. Spectators at the end of the Kalapaki Breakwater had the best vantage point to watch the action as boats raced around the buoys. Bonjolea II finished first with an elapsed time of 1:07:03, but settled for third after the PHRF handicap was applied (1:11:26 corrected). Ozone finished next, but having sailed a near perfect race scored first place (1:07:42 corrected). Papa’au took second place with 1:09:04 corrected time to round out the leaders.

Club Open division had Speedy take top honors (1:13:37 elapsed, 1:04:40 corrected) followed by Trinity (1:12:58 elapsed, 1:08:20 corrected), and then Weatherly (1:16:46 elapsed, 1:09:47 corrected).
This completes the second race of the 6 race Rum Race Series. The public is invited to view the third race of the series Thursday when first flags fly at 5 p.m. at the Nawiliwili Harbor jetty wall area.
