Fast Company wins the Race and the Series
Fast Company lead the fleet at the start of the last race of the Horse and Pony Race, and was able to keep ahead of 5 other racers on the 3.51 mile course. The wind was gusting out of the NNE and a few boats chose to have a reef in their mainsails. This paid off for those boats as a rain squall came through Nawiliwili Harbor bringing more wind, but after the squall left the area the wind lighten up a bit and a the full sailed boats had the speed advantage.
Fast Company having finished first with an elapsed time of 39 minutes, 23 seconds corrected to 39:27. Trinity, a F-28 trimaran, flew across the finish line next with an elapsed time of 40:10 but corrected to 45:43, a fourth place. OZone was next across the line (41:52 elapsed) and scored a third place with a corrected time of 41:56. Papa a’u won second place with an elapsed time of 42:18, corrected to 40:30. Club Class finishers were Speedy with first place followed by Trinity then Weatherly.
The Pony race started with Thor Temme, racing his Topper for OZone, across the start line first as others were close behind him. Trading tacks as the fleet of Toppers made their way to the weather mark (Red 6) it was Sean Hoban for Speedy that made the mark first and set his course to return to the finish line. The finish horn sounded as he finished first, followed by Kai Ponting for Fast Company, and Ed Tschupp for Papa’au for third place.
The race results were tallied and the series results were in: Fast Company won first place in PHRF with a total points of 13. Second place went to Papa a’u with a total of 19 points, with OZone in third with a total of 22 points.
