Costumed competition in the Halloween Race
The all clear sounded and 7 boats with costumed crews took off on various tacks, all trying to out prank each other. Kato, dressed up as Elements of a Good Crew Periodic Table; OZone, dressed up as scary OR Doctors and Attendants; Fast Company, each crew member doing their best to impersonate …who else, but JIM SAYLOR!; Lelele, dressed up as Hippies from the 1960s; Speedy, dressed up as a Mime Troupe; Weatherly, dressed up as, appropriately, NYC sailors; and Iwa, dressed up as scary Edgar Allen Poe characters.
The Scary Doctors beat the Elements of a Good Crew around the windward mark, followed by the JIMSAYOR impersonators, but the Scary Doctors were eventually passed by the Elements of a Good Crew and stayed in 2nd for the remainder of the race. The JIMSAYLOR impersonators remained in 3rd due to uncertainty about who was who. The NYC Sailors, the Hippies and the Mimes were in the 2nd group to round and all being chased by a very scary Edgar Allen Poe gang bringing up the rear.
After corrections, Kato took 1st PHRF; OZone 2nd PHRF; Fast Company 3rd PHRF; Weatherly 1st CLUB; Lelele 2nd CLUB; Speedy 3rd CLUB, and Iwa 4th Club. All boats received a participation prize for their great costumed crew.
Dinner at the Nawiliwili Yacht Club House was Mark Rodriques’ delicious legendary spaghetti sauce on noodles, with mushrooms, green salad, garlic bread and cookies for dessert. Non-boat participants who dressed up were Liz and Phil, as Scary Clowns; Doug and Sharon as Ketchup and Fries, and Sylvia as a Hot Cop; they also each received a prize and a good time was had by all.
