Fast Company wins the Junior Invitational Series
It was the fourth and final race of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Junior Invitational Race Series and Bonjolea II skippered by Bonnie Tiffany was the points leader going into the race, but Weatherly, and Fast Company were each within reach to become the series winner if the winds were in their favor.
At the start gun, Fast Company and Lelele took off on port tack steering around the rest of the fleet that were on starboard tack. Both boats tacked next to the breakwater in clear air away from the rest of the fleet. The course took them out to the lighthouse buoy during which Fast Company secured a sizable lead over the rest of the boats. Everyone enjoyed a quick downwind sail into the harbor to the leeward mark.
The 4.8 mile long course took them back out to the lighthouse buoy as they needed tack into the ENE trade winds before heading downwind again. Fast Company crossed the finish line first with a corrected time of 1:04:51. Weatherly was the second place boat with a corrected time of 1:13:19 with Lelele close behind with a corrected time of 1:13:41.
Club Class had Speedy in first place with a corrected time of 1:05:59, Bonjolea II in second place with a corrected time of 1:11:57, and OZone in third place with a corrected time of 1:12:49.
Series final standings had Fast Company earning the first place trophy in PHRF Open Class with 11 points, followed by Weatherly (14 pts.) and Bonjolea II (15 pts.). Club Class first place trophy went to Lelele (12 pts.), followed by Speedy (14pts.) and OZone (21 pts.)
