John Bertrand Memorial Rum Series Begins
Yet another week of missing the outer buoy (still on the rocks on the far side of the breakwater), but some yacht club members are quite proficient in placing a temporary mark near the original position. Winds were a light (8-10 knots) from the north as nine boats sailed from the small boat harbor.
After the mass start, the lead was taken by the five Olson 30’s. The leading two boats (Ozone and Kato) pulled away from the others and led throughout the entire race. The other three Olsons sailed well, challenging each other, until the end.
Trinity, the trimaran, surged to finish in fourth place, boat for boat…but has a severe handicap in the PHRF category. In club category, however, Trinity’s handicap was enough to push it into third place.
The other non-Olson boats, had their own battle, Lelele finishing ahead of Papa a’u and Bonjolea II (in corrected time).
PHRF:
1. Ozone
2. Kato
3. Fast Company
Club:
1. Speedy
2. Weatherly
3. Trinity
