OZONE wins NYC Opening Day
The weather forecast called for light southeast winds Saturday morning, but at 10 a.m. Nawiliwili Yacht Club racers found themselves at the start line with 8-10 knots of easterly winds – perfect conditions for the season-opening yacht races.
A fleet of nine sailboats raced three courses throughout the day which included rounding the lighthouse buoy off of Ninini Point.
Competition was keen as all three races saw the boats start in a tight pack after each boat jockeyed for the best position during the start sequences.
The final results came in with Ozone in first, Fast Company in second, and Papa a’u grabbing third. Coyote came in first under Club class, followed by Weatherly and Maeva.
A HUGE Mahalo to the Starting Officials for a great job starting and finishing all the races.
Following the race, Opening Day was celebrated by a “Champagne and Sails” party put together by Fleet Captain Mike Armstrong. The Nawiliwili Clubhouse was packed with hungry sailors, yacht club guests, and visitors enjoying a cookout menu and lawn games.
The public is invited to view the first of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club’s Spring Shakedown Series on February 18 at 5 p.m. at the Nawiliwili Harbor jetty.
