TESS MOELLER ON FAST COMPANY MAKES IT 3 IN A ROW!

TESS MOELLER ON FAST COMPANY MAKES IT 3 IN A ROW!

DSC_0457_2_1024The third race of the Wahine Series was held on 7/25/19. A woman has to skipper the boat in this series. The 6 mile course was held in 10-14 knot winds out of the northeast. All of the boats started on the usual starboard tack except for Fast Company who started on port tack with the wind coming over the left side of the boat. Although they had to duck or go behind a couple of the other boats who had the right of way on starboard, Jim Saylor thought that this paid off. He said they had trouble when their main sheet malfunctioned, which slowed them down. DSC_0644_2_1024Heading out to the lighthouse buoy it was Bonjolea II in the lead with Bonnie Tiffany on the helm. There was some good competition among the Olson 30’s with Double Espresso giving Kato and Fast Company some challenges. The Express 27 Papa Au with Victoria Aiu steering was also in the mix with their 30 second a mile handicap due to their shorter length.

DSC_0579_2_1024Even though at the end of the 3 lap course it was the 36 foot Bonjolea II who crossed the finish line first by over 4 minutes, with their handicap they gave up first place in the PHRF class to Fast Company by just 7 seconds. Tess Moeller the skipper of Fast Company was smiling again when those results were presented at the yacht club. Bonnie Tiffany on Bonjolea II had to settle for second place and Papa Au came in third after another good showing by Victoria Aiu.

DSC_1093_2_1024In the Club class it was the beautiful Iwa, a Beneteau Oceanis 41 skippered by Karen Cole who came in first. The Olson 30’s Double Espresso with Emily Blackburn steering came in second and Kato with Chandra Bertsch steering came in third.

The fourth and final race of the Wahine Series will be held on Thursday 8/1/19 with a start time of 5 pm. The public is invited to watch the race from the Nawiliwili mole parking area.
